  1. I’m guessing you have the non turbo 420A model. Well, you CAN put the EVO engine in an Eclipse, but the engine sits backwards so there can be some fitment issues with the turbo. I’d just go ahead and turbo the 420A motor you have. They can handle a REALLY large amount of boost easily as long as you are properly maintaining the engine, using only the best oil like Royal Purple, Redline, Eneos…etc, and changing the oil and filter every 3K miles. Here is a link that will explain everything about why you should just get a Stage II turbo kit from Hahn rather than spend twice as much on an engine swap for LESS power. Good luck!
Scroll down to read about it and click on the Stage I and II options. Stage II will get you 275whp (an EVO motor makes about 240-250whp) and for a LOT less $$$….plus the giant intercooler looks sweet. ;-)

  2. i say yes, the eclipse GSX basically had it at the time, all wheel drive, the 4g63 motor and transmission. and since the GSX basically had the same body as any other eclipse from 95-99, the parts should be interchangeable. however, as the lower models had the 420 engine mounted differently, you will need the GSX engine mounts and modify them to fit the EVO engine. you might as well also get the front and rear suspension to make everything work together nicely. you can do all that, or just sell your car and look for an eclipse GSX and tune it up. that might be cheaper, but it still has the 4g63 engine and all wheel drive…

  3. theoretically you can do anything. can you do it easily? no.
first off, the engine in the evo while being the same engine designation as that which came in the gsx and gst, mounts differently. the hood buldge which allows clearance for the timing belt cover would be on the wrong side. you could go to the trouble of fabricating mounts to work because the gsx/gst mounts will NOT work.
if you have a gst/gsx already, you would be better off just building it up. you can easily match the performance of the evo motor without doing much as far as internals. a bigger turbo, intercooler, injectors, fuel pump, and a good tune would get you in the range of the evo. with my gst i am currently putting down 300hp to the wheels with an evo3 16g, walbro 255 fuel pump, fic 720cc injectors, manual boost controller, chipped eprom ecu, 3″ turbo back exhaust, 2g maf, and ported manifolds. a fmic and better charge pipes should help me bump up the power quite a bit because right now i am choked by the stock intercooler.
if you have the eclipse with the 420a, your best bet would be either to turbo it, which will take a bit of work to come close to evo performance. i personally think you would be better off selling the car and buying a gsx.
anything is possible though, i have seen an eclipse with a caddy northstar swap
