Mitsubishi Eclipse motor swap with Evo?

mitsubishi evo
LeBamf asked:

Hey guys i have a 99 eclipse gs. I’ve heard it’s possible to drop a 4g63 evo motor in these. Is it worth it? How would i convert my FWD gs into AWD? And where could i buy a 4g63 evo motor? THanks!

  1. Its WAY too expensive to convert the car from front to all wheel drive. You’re looking at a few grand just for that. The swap is possible, the motor bolts right in, but you need all new wiring and the ECU. I wouldnt waste the money tho. The transmission conversion is crazy expensive.

  2. It’s not just the motor you’ll need to swap or replace. There are oil lines, all the wiring and the ECU, plus you’ll need an intercooler and piping to keep the turbo cooled. AWD conversion isn’t worth the money or the hassle. There are plenty of sites to get used motors from, not sure of the names off the top of my head sorry. Search under used motors or motor swaps.

  3. the cost of doing all of that work to your eclipse is the same as trading or selling your eclipse and taking the money that would have cost for the engine change and all of that and put about 2k down and thatll get you a evo.
